Concrete Bunker

Concrete bunker where the revolutionary John Chilembwe* stored weapons that were used in his uprising aimed to overthrow colonial British power in Malawi in 1915. Of the dead was the famous Scottish missionary John Livingstone, who was beheaded in front of his family. Chilembwe was reportedly killed by colonial officials as he tried to flee to Mozambique a few days later.

*Rev. Chilembwe's face is on all of the Malawian paper notes (kwacha) he was a pretty interesting character who traveled to the US to study where he was influenced by abolitionists Booker T Washington, Frederick Douglass, John Brown et. al.
