A HISTORY OF LISTENING, HISSING
(I CAN GET YOUR STATION WHEN I NEED REJUVENATION)

It's not...zzzsssXXCCZZZZYYY!!!...RADIO anymore...RADIO...

RADIO...occured...in the mind...

RADIO...falling asleep to the last game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, 1971, Lloyd Petit, anncr....Waking up to the sombre voices of the 'GN announcers, knew we lost it...
Driving from Chicago to NY, listening to ballgames on the AM band all--day--long, games all day, in every time zone...11 yrs. old: not sleeping without the Big 89 on all night long; except for "War," by Edwin Starr, who kept screaming "UNDERTAKER," which really freaked me out after my grandfather's funeral...

Bob Sirott chickening out of streaking the Michigan Avenue bridge...Getting on John Landecker's "Boogie Check" call-in segment TWICE...Brant Miller interrupting the Big 89's afternoon drive to announce a verdict in the CLIFF Richard drug trial in Toronto, 1977...!!!

...streaming, dreaming...ssssSSSSS...XXXXCCCCCZZZYYY!!!...

Discovery of FM: finally finding a station that would play "Love Her Madly" as much as I wanted, WDHF featuring Capt. Whammo...WDAI, WXRT...Steve and Garry going AM, all my Illinois State buddies busting my balls when they hear where I got my best stuff from...

New Wave: WWCT, Peoria, Mark Goodman, afternoond drive, WPGU, Champaign...
Short Wave: listening to the BBC reporting on the failed coup against Gorbachev...

Ahhhhh, can't keep it on one station for music any more (WDRV in the car)...RADIO...cheap receivers, free programming...lone mind...

It's not RADIO any...

RA...

This is the Voice of God. I starred alongside Nancy Reagan and Richard Whitmore in a1950s Sci-Fi feature called (cleverly, I think) "The Voice of God." You never hear Me in the movie, but I'm very much there. I found the role challenging, really stretching My range. Lots of interesting choices. With billions of tiny, tiny radios I hear your every move. Every thought, every dream, every lie. Richard Whitmore was a true gentlemen, really generous with Me, and Nancy Reagan had GREAT LEGS!

I'll be right back...sssssssssssss...right...back...sssssssssssss........................
